OK Laingsburg Marathon

On Saturday 30 September 2017 the 47th annual KAROO MARATHON took place in the friendly Western Cape town of Laingsburg.

Hundreds of runners from across the country made their way to the start line at the JJ Ellis Sports field to brave the beautiful but challenging Karoo backroads over a variety of distances including 21km, 12km and a 5k fun run.

But the very serious athletes on the day had their sights set on the main event: The 80km Ultra Marathon!

The day went smoothly with mild, dry conditions making the going a little easier. The multiple water stations along the route also brought much needed hydration and encouragement along a course that is mostly vast and lonely.

After just 5 hours and 31 minutes, the first man home was Lucas Nonyana, and the first lady over line was Rome Phillips-Meyer in 7 hours and 52 minutes. Congratulations guys!

A big congratulations also goes to the owners and staff at OK Bellville and OK Laingsburg. Their joint support of the event was spirited, pulled the community together and added up to a memorable day.

Thanks to everyone from both OK teams involved! See you all again in 2018!
