The Cable Car

If you're looking for a cocktail that highlights the spice of a high-quality rum, it may be time to try The Cable Car. Essentially a twist on the Sidecar, the Cable Car swaps brandy for Captain Morgan Spiced Gold Rum. Its sweet, tart and lightly spiced flavours can warm you up on a chilly evening after work or cool you down after a hot day in the sun.

Lemon sour method:

1	Combine water and sugar in a pot.
2	If you're using it, add the zested lime at this point.
3	Heat until boiling. Then lower the heat to a simmer and slowly stir with a spoon until the sugar is dissolved.
4	Remove the pot from the heat. Add freshly squeezed lemon and lime juice to the mixture.
5	Pour the lemon sour mix into a container using a strainer to avoid getting pulp or zest in.
6	Place the mixture in the fridge.

Cocktail method:

1	Rim a chilled cocktail glass with sugar.
2	In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, pour the Captain Morgan Spiced Gold Rum, orange liqueur, and lemon sour.
3	Shake well and strain into the rimmed glass.
4	Garnish with an orange twist.

Pro-tip:

It is important to use fine sugar when rimming a glass. The granulated sugar you use every day in the kitchen does not stick as well because the crystals are larger.

60ml	Orange flavoured liqueur
	Superfine sugar, for rimming
45ml	Lemon sour*
	Orange twist, for garnish

1 cup	Water
1 cup	Sugar
1 cup	Freshly squeezed lemon juice
¼ cup	Freshly squeezed lime juice
	Zest from 1 lime (optional)
