THE WHISKY SOUR

When it comes to classic cocktails, there’s nothing quite like The Whisky Sour. It’s traditionally made with bourbon or Irish whiskey — but for a local twist, our recipe uses Bain’s Whisky with simple syrup, egg white, citrus, and bitters. The flavour is balanced and complemented by the sweetness of the whisky and simple syrup, so it's not as tart as you might think. If you’re looking for a sure-fire way to impress your guests, mix a Whisky Sour!

Serves 2

5 - 10 min

Ingredients

100ml Bain’s Whisky
70ml Lemon juice
12,5ml Simple syrup (one part water to one part sugar)
4 Dashes bitters
1 Egg white
4 - 6 Ice, for shaker and glass
  Lemon peel, for zest
  Orange slice, for garnish
100ml Bain’s Whisky
70ml Lemon juice
12,5ml Simple syrup (one part water to one part sugar)
4 Dashes bitters
1 Egg white
4 - 6 Ice, for shaker and glass
  Lemon peel, for zest
  Orange slice, for garnish

Method

1 Add ice, Bain’s Whisky, lemon juice, simple syrup, an egg white, and bitters to a cocktail shaker.
2 Shake until the shaker feels very cold.
3 Let the mixture rest (+/- 5 minutes).
4 Add ice to a glass.
5 Strain the mixture into the glass.
6 Squeeze the lemon zest, shiny side down, over the drink so that the scented liquid sprays across the surface.
7 Discard the zest.
8 Garnish with an orange slice.
9 Cheers!

Pro-tip:

Don’t want to use egg white? Try aquafaba as a substitute! Aquafaba is the liquid that’s inside a can of chickpeas. One tablespoon of aquafaba is equal to half an egg white.
